CCSA Fall 2008 Post-Season Tournament

Tie-Breaker Rules

In the event of a tie at the end of regulation tournament play, each team will follow the procedures as described below:

For U7 and U8

New Coin Toss with the “home” team calling it.

Play a 5 minute “sudden death” overtime, but 4v4 and having no goalkeeper. The first team to score WINS.

If tied after the first overtime (Teams are to STAY ON THE FIELD.),

Play then a 4 minute “sudden death” overtime, but this time start 3v3 and still no goalkeeper. The team that did not kick off the 1st overtime will now get to kick-off. Again, the first team to score WINS.  Play shall be stopped if neither team scores in this 4 minute period (second OT).

Teams are again to STAY ON THE FIELD and each coach shall remove one more player. Play will be restarted with a drop-ball at midfield and both teams playing 2v2.

Continue to play w/ 2 players until one team scores. Play shall be continuous until a goal is scored.

NOTE: There are to be no substitutions DURING the “sudden death” periods. The same players are to stay on the field unless they are chosen by the coach to be removed at the specified times. The only exception is that teams may sub at the breaks between overtimes provided that their players are in the substitution box PRIOR TO the final whistle being blown.

The first team to score during any of these overtime periods shall be declared the winner.

For U9 through U14

New Coin Toss with the “home” team calling it.

Play one 5 minute overtime period. This period is considered “sudden death,” where the first to score is considered the winner.

If still tied after the first overtime, Referees choose which goal to use for shoot-outs.

Each coach will provide the Field Marshals and Referees with a list of five players from the ones that finished the 1st overtime on the field. Each player listed shall take a shot from the penalty kick mark against the opposing goalkeeper – alternating from team to team. The team that scores the most goals wins.

Goalkeepers can be listed/used as a shooter.

Goalkeepers can only be changed one time during the PKs with the exception of an injury to the keeper.

If still tied after the first round of penalty kicks,

Proceed to the second group of five players from each team.

Each team takes a shot/penalty kick. If both players score a goal or if both miss their attempt, the next player makes an attempt.

A team wins if their player scores during the round and the opponent does not.

If still tied, then proceed with the remaining player(s) from each team noting that a player cannot attempt their second shot until all players on their team have attempted their first shot.

Proceed in this manner until the tie is broken.

NOTE: Teams and coaches are permitted on the field during the taking of penalty kicks provided they remain a reasonable distance from the penalty area (i.e. they line up in or near the midfield circle).

A NOTE FOR ALL AGE GROUPS: A COACH MAY CHOOSE ANY PLAYER(S) FROM HIS/HER ROSTER TO START OVERTIME WITH. THE PLAYERS THAT WERE ON THE FIELD AT THE END OF REGULATION PLAY DO NOT HAVE TO START THE OVERTIME PERIOD.
